Shark Whisperer

Truman is so cute with animals, he loves them! (I'll have to post later about his latest pet) Anyway, yesterday we were shopping for a backpack at the sporting goods store and Truman spotted this blow-up shark and he really wanted it. As we contemplated spending $6 on it and the liklihood that it won't last long since we live in pokey land (lots of cactus and stickers) I realized this boy is growing up and in the next year or so he'll be too big for a shark blow-up toy (His name is Sharky, BTW--Truman is reading over my shoulder and thought that should be inserted now)so I bought it. As soon as we got home Truman changed into his swimsuit and hit the pool. It was cloudy and windy but he couldn't wait to take Sharky for a swim. He carefully positioned Sharky by the ladder and then carefully climbed on and immediately Sharky flipped up, head over heels, and dumped Truman in the water. So Truman lugged him over the side, climbed out and carefully positioned Sharky again and climbed on again, this time Sharky barrel rolled and dumped him. It was seriously funny and just like taming a wild horse. This happened over and over, with Truman truly stroking Sharky's head, sweet talking him. Truman worked for a long time to get it right and I gave up watching and the other kids joined him and everyone was having fun. This morning Truman got up, changed into his swimsuit and went out to talk to Sharky. I looked out the kitchen window and saw him carefully position Sharky, stroking his head, carefully climb on, and sweetly sail away from the side of the pool. I ran out to take some pictures. Sharky has been tamed, the Shark Whisperer was successful!

Too funny! Owen got a matching dolphin for our trip and is experiencing exactly the same "flip" frustration. :) I'll have to tell him about Truman's success! Cute pictures!
He is so cute, Ann. I can't believe how much he looks like you!
We got the walrus and have had the same problem. It now sits deflated under our stairs. =)
Look at the picture, notice where his feet are, in front of the the fins and not behind. It's a good trick to stay on!
So funny!! What a trooper not to give up. I could go for a swimming pool about now :)!! Awesome pictures too. What a cool kid.
